Tendons transmit muscle force and can store and return elastic energy. Their contribution depends on task, loading rate, and tissue properties.

Ligaments guide motion

Ligaments help constrain and guide joint movement with capsule, bone shape, cartilage, muscle force, and sensory feedback.

FASCIA

Fascial planes distribute force

Fascial and other connective tissues provide pathways for force transfer and sliding among structures, while also containing nerves and vessels.

JOINT

Stability is a system property

Joint stability arises from passive structures, active muscle control, sensory information, external load, and movement history.

Resident cells sense and respond

Tenocytes, fibroblasts, immune cells, vascular cells, and neighboring tissues respond to mechanical, inflammatory, and metabolic context.

REPAIR

Healing changes over phases

Inflammation, matrix deposition, vascular changes, and remodeling overlap after injury; repaired tissue may not exactly reproduce original structure.

TIME

Matrix adaptation is not immediate

Connective-tissue turnover often unfolds across longer clocks than acute muscle metabolism, making abrupt load jumps a different stimulus.

03LOADING + INTERPRETATION
PROGRESSION

Gradual loading supports adaptation

Appropriate progression balances stimulus with recovery, but suitable loading differs by tissue, task, age, injury history, health, and clinical advice.

PAIN

Pain is important but nonspecific

Pain can reflect many interacting biological, mechanical, and nervous-system factors and cannot on its own identify tissue damage or readiness.

INJURY

Some signs need assessment

A sudden pop, deformity, rapid swelling, instability, locking, loss of function, or inability to bear weight can require prompt evaluation.

BOUNDARY

This is not a rehabilitation plan

The map cannot diagnose a tendon or ligament condition, choose exercises, set loading progression, or determine safe return to sport or work.
